TO Shocked

Terrell Owens was completely shocked by his release from the Dallas Cowboys earlier this month. The word that he used was ‘blindsided’ and he thought he shouldn’t be put into the position of having to leave. He heard all the rumors and went to Jerry Jones, who said that he would stay with the Cowboys on into the next season. This is his version of the story. Jones, for his part, says that they have a good relationship and regrets that they were unable to keep him for the remainder of the contract. After several weeks since he moved to Buffalo, Owens is now speaking out to get his word into the ring. But, to be fair, he wasn’t too whiny about it, like one might have expected. He was just upset and wanted to get his perspective out there.

Cutler: Stop Playing with My Heart

Newsflash: Josh McDaniels came out today with a statement about Jay Cutler. He said “He’s our quarterback”. Based on this statement, we would assume that McDaniels has decided that Cutler will be on the team this year. Unfortunately, this is the kind of statement that might have fixed things about 3-4 weeks ago, when the problem first began. This is the problem. McDaniels hasn’t been clear, apparently, with Cutler about whether he will be an important part of the team or not, or whether he will be part of the offense. If he wanted Cassel, that’s ok, but if you don’t get him, you need to be upfront about that. It’s also possible that Cutler’s being disingenuous about what’s happened. Hard to untangle this one.

Rogers-Mangini

Shaun Rogers is having a battle with Browns’ coach Mangini. The coach had refused to speak with him for quite awhile and didn’t want to have communication with him for quite awhile. It’s not completely clear what exactly the problem was, but they are still having their rift. There was supposed to be a voluntary meeting of the team members in order to get everyone together, but now Rogers is refusing to come and has asked at earlier points to be released from his 6 year contract. This is going to be a continuing story for the next few months in the NFL, and we’ll have to keep an eye on it!

Doom and Gloom?

According to Bleacher Report, there is a large contingent of people who are very concerned since New England started making so many trades. Cassel was sent to KC, as was Vrabel. What’s going to happen now? Based on that report, there are lots of other trade possibilities that might really get you surprised and concerned about the Patriots’ future. But then again, they are probably more concerned about it than they need to be. When Cassel left, it started to seem like the team was going to look very different for next year. This is probably true, but it wont be nearly as different as you might think. And many of these deals needed to be made in order to open space for the team’s cap. But no one is completely sure what the coach and GM are doing right now. So they’re worried.

Uncomfortable!

A few weeks ago we mentioned that Jake Cutler was very angry at his coaching staff and really the whole Denver Broncos organization. The Broncos had made sounds as though they were going to pick up Matt Cassel from New England. Well, Cutler was upset about this because he’s their current starting quarterback. This became a big kerfluffle for them and now they are going to have to clean it up. Cutler and Mr. McDaniels, the offensive coordinator of the team, had a difficult conversation this week where they discussed the actual problems that had arisen. According to inside sources, it wasn’t a very comfortable conversation; in fact, it was an awkward conversation for all parties involved. But that’s the normal way with this kind of situation, and, while they apparently didn’t come to any real conclusions, they were able to start communication again, which is perhaps everything they needed.

Give TO the Bills’ (Jersey)

Terrell Owens is now a member of the Buffalo Bills. I don’t know what will happen there, but it’s an interesting development. Why? Well , the question is what the Bills’ reason for bringing him in is. Many people in the media have been discussing it as though it’s a great strategic move by Buffalo. But several others suggest that the move is much less useful than that. For Owens himself, a one year deal for a 35 year old player is probably not the best that he could have done. And he came up with a deal pretty early after being released. This is another one of those things. You wonder if the Bills really needed someone new or whether that person needed to be a wide receiver. We will find out next season!

Terrell

Terrell Owens is off the Cowboys now. Why? Because he caused too many problems in the lockerroom at many times. It is certainly a tough choice, because Owens is one of the best receivers in the game and certainly one of the most exciting players around right now. But unfortunately, the team decided that the distraction caused by this guy was too much for their whole organization. What are they going to do without him though? It’s not clear that they have anyone to come up the ranks instead. When you get rid of a talented receiver, you need to have one that will do well in his place, but the Cowboys don’t have it. Does that mean we’re going to lose the Cowboys as a dominant team? It would be too bad, but they will have to change their spending habits to make it work out.

Cutler Angry

Jay Cutler is upset at his team the Denver Broncos. He came up recently in rumors about possible trade deals including Matt Cassell. Cutler feels insulted that his name even came up during these discussions, and now he’s refusing to talk to the team for a little while. The new Denver coach is the former offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots and wanted to bring Cassell in. Maybe. The Broncos deny everything about it, and say that they want to discuss is with Cutler. My question is this: why does this guy, with a losing percentage, get any say at all in whether he might get traded or not? And why is he surprised that he would come up in such discussions?
