Buffalo Rich with Running Backs

One position the Buffalo Bills will not need to worry about is running back. The Bills’ vaunted ground game has been on display through the first two games of the preseason against Washington and Indianapolis. Buffalo already had two former 1,000+ yard rushers in Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch coming into the 2010-2011 season, but the addition of their first round draft pick C.J. Spiller and undrafted talent Joique Bell have turned the Bills backfield into a gold mine. The Bills didn’t miss a step in their second preseason game of the year Thursday night with both Jackson and Lynch out injured. Spiller, an All-American at Clemson last season, displayed his game-changing speed with a emphatic 31-yard touchdown in the first quarter of the Bills’ game with the Indianapolis Colts. His fellow rookie runner Bell picked up right where Spiller left off -racking up 80 yards on 11 carries and scoring one touchdown. Bell was named the Division II player of the year last season at Wayne State. The Detroit native could be a diamond in the rough should the Bills decide to hold on him at the end of training camp. If the Bills decide to only keep three running backs on the roster I’m sure their will be host of teams interested in Bell’s services.

TO Shocked

Terrell Owens was completely shocked by his release from the Dallas Cowboys earlier this month. The word that he used was ‘blindsided’ and he thought he shouldn’t be put into the position of having to leave. He heard all the rumors and went to Jerry Jones, who said that he would stay with the Cowboys on into the next season. This is his version of the story. Jones, for his part, says that they have a good relationship and regrets that they were unable to keep him for the remainder of the contract. After several weeks since he moved to Buffalo, Owens is now speaking out to get his word into the ring. But, to be fair, he wasn’t too whiny about it, like one might have expected. He was just upset and wanted to get his perspective out there.

Give TO the Bills’ (Jersey)

Terrell Owens is now a member of the Buffalo Bills. I don’t know what will happen there, but it’s an interesting development. Why? Well , the question is what the Bills’ reason for bringing him in is. Many people in the media have been discussing it as though it’s a great strategic move by Buffalo. But several others suggest that the move is much less useful than that. For Owens himself, a one year deal for a 35 year old player is probably not the best that he could have done. And he came up with a deal pretty early after being released. This is another one of those things. You wonder if the Bills really needed someone new or whether that person needed to be a wide receiver. We will find out next season!
