After a lackluster performance in the first of the Eagles versus Ravens matchup yesterday, Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid benched Donovan McNabb in favor of backup QB Pat Shurmur. It was an effort desired to put a spark in the Eagles offense. However, it only worsened the situation and led to further embarassment. When McNabb left it was 10-7. When the game was over it was 36-7. It’s clear that McNabb is not the problem. Furthermore, it may finally happen where McNabb leaves after the end of this season.

Eagles need to fly together in 2008

340x.jpg

The Philadelphia Eagles will need a healthy team if they want to compete in the tough NFC East. Last Year the Eagles finished a respectable 8-8 but failed to make the playoffs and that is something that doesn’t sit well for the city of brotherly love.  With so many injuries plaguing the Eagles in 2007, they need to remain healthy and not struggle at key positions due to injuries. It has to start with the Donovan McNabb who has struggled to play a full season in what seems like forever. Early reports say he is fine and ready for the year but we have heard that before. Other key players that need to stay on the field are tight end L.J. Smith, RB Brian Westbrook and of course the offensive line.  The defense needs leader Brian Dawkins healthy because along with Asante Samuel the Philadelphia secondary can really make some noise. Of course they are simply things that every NFL franchise needs in order to compete but the Eagles are too good of a team to finish mediocre and a healthy 2008 squad can make for another run at the beloved Super Bowl.

Eagles extend contract of GM Heckert

The Philadelphia Eagles have announced last Friday that they have extended the contract of General Manager Tom Heckert till 2011. Heckert was named as the GM of Eagles in 2006 and was the director of player personnel of the Eagles team since 2001. Heckert said that he was very happy to get a contract extension and is hoping for better performances from the team this season. So, if you are an ardent Eagles fan, grab your tickets to the Pats games well in advance in order to eliminate last minute disappointments.

Philadelphia Eagles Kolb shows rapid improvement at mini camp

Philadelphia Eagles first draft pick in 2007, Kevin Kolb, carried out his rookie season activities without much fanfare and attention, than what he received last year. Kolb did impress his coaches with his style of play and finished the season with 70 passes of 106 for 617 yards and two touchdowns. The quarterback Kevin Kolb showed that he is mentally and physically prepared for the NFL league, but has to work on certain aspects of the game in order to gain the respect from his team mates. He has to be patient in waiting for his chance and once he gets it he will have to prove himself as one of the best quarterbacks for the Eagles.

Owens Sued Over Unpaid Bonus Money

Due to a matter pertaining to owed bonus money, Terrell Owens, former wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles, is being sued by his ex-team, said official sources on Monday. Owens, or more fondly known by his initials T.O., is notably one of the most daring and talented NFL players who always made his opinions heard. However, neither he nor his agent Drew Rosenhaus, can be reached for comments about this disturbing issue.

The Philadelphia Eagles and their lawyer filed the $770,000 suit in US District Court. Previously, Owens lost in arbitration during the first quarter of 2008, and now he is being instructed to repay approximately $1.7 million in bonuses that was given to him throughout the years 2004 and 2005 before he joined the Dallas Cowboys. Halfway through 2005, he was suspended due to detrimental conduct. It does not matter that he led the Eagles to numerous victory and got them into the Super Bowl. He was denied a grand total of $965,000 in salary after the unfortunate suspension.

Philadelphia Eagles yet to sign an offense

The Philadelphia Eagles fans are not happy with the offense present in the team and are demanding the team to sign up new offense in the team. But things are pretty slow in free agency and hence, Eagles are yet to get an offense. The team management thinks that their offenses has improved this year and are counting on the performance of Donovan McNabb. The team is expecting this quarterback to play at his best this year. Success of Eagles mainly depends on McNabbs Pro-bowl level performance. Another strong player is the tight end L.J Smith and Eagles have retained him for the year 2008 using the franchise tag.

There is a gap to be filled in the starting job as Thomas Tapeh, the fullback signed with Minnesota team. The linemen are also better in health compared to the last season. But the nagging question is whether the Eagles are capable of producing victory in Super Bowl with the present players. The coaching staff is hopeful that the offensive line will regain their form and do well in the coming games. The free agency time is running out and the probability of finding a good enough offense is decreasing day by day. So, the Eagles have to act fast or else they will have to regret the loss.

Jevon Kearse to be the defensive end of Titans

The Tennessee Titans has made a two year contract with Jevon Kearse last Thursday. The coach of Tennessee Titans, Jeff Fisher has plans to make use of this 31 year old player as the defensive end of the team, which is almost vacant after the free agents like Travis La Boy and Antwan Odom left the team. Kearse started his career in NFL with the Tennessee Titans and his return to the team is a big relief in filling up the gap in the team. Earlier he served Titans as the defensive Rookie after being selected to the team in 1999 draft. In that season, the Titans were able to reach the Super Bowl.

He left Titans in 2004 as a free agent for the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, Kearse is happy to come back to the Tennessee as he is getting a chance to finish his career from where he had started. Kearse was more successful while he was with the Titans and is eager to be re-united with the Titans. In 2006, he suffered knee injury and was unable to play many matches. In late 2007, he was again out of the game and was released from Eagles as salary cap cut.
