Going for the Record

Matt Prater of the Denver Broncos will be trying to set a league record for a field goal distance. The current record stands at 63 yards. Prater wants to break it and set the record at 70 yards. In his position, being able to kick well is important. Prater is doing very well as a kicker for the Broncos. His stats are nothing to smirk at or ignore. Prater is a really good kicker and he is getting better and closer to breaking the record one kick at a time.

Lane Kiffin out the Door

More firing and hiring taking place at the NFL. This had been one exciting season off the field and. Unwanted coaches are being let go at a record pace. It seems as winning is really becoming a mantra for all the teams. Maybe it’s a good thing; maybe it’s a bad thing. Coaching never really had much job security, especially if the team continually looses. This week it is Lane Kiffin, the head coach of the Oakland Raiders, who go the boot. The decision finally came, over the phone, to have Kiffin let go after many off-season rumors.

Super Bowl XLIII Half Time Show

Just to spice things up and provide a preview to all football fans, the 43rd Super Bowl half time show will feature Bruce Springsteen. Though it would be nice to know what teams will be facing off, at least it is a comfort to know that the entertainment will be great. Springsteen will headline the show. As for the opening act, that is yet to be determined. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves; the Super Bowl is still a ways away.

Packer Fans can Breathe

Al Harris, the Green Bay Packers cornerback, sustained an injury to his spleen during the most recent game against the Cowboys. According to doctors and other medical professionals, Harris will be out of play for about three to four weeks, not the full season as was first suspected. It was also thought the spleen would require medical removal, but the medical staff is recommending for Harris to simply rest, so that his spleen has time to full recover on its own.

Detroit Lions Need a Pack Leader

Matt Millen, the CEO and team president of the Detroit Lions, is leaving his position. The dry spell for the Detroit Lions may also be over with Millen’s departure. Who is going to takeover is still up in the air. But at least it will be a breath of fresh air! Hopefully the new guy will have experience and be more mindful to win games—a minor thing Millen overlooked. Detroit Lion fans have something to cheer about as Millen’s reign is over.

The Dolphins have registered Ricky Williams as their running back and there were news in the transfer market that they were looking for a possible trade out for Brown. Chad Pennington who was let off by the New York Jets after the signing of Favre has now been signed by Miami Dolphins for a 2 year deal. An insider reported that the deal was worth $11.5 million, though the Dolphins have not announced it publically yet. Chad Pennington struggled last season with the Jets going 1-7 as starter and was benched from week 8 onwards. Pennington said that he had no regrets about what had happened to him at New York and has grown as both a player and human being at his 8 year stint at NY. The only thing disheartening was that that he was no longer required by the team that he had served for so long.
